Advance bookings for Yash's Toxic open today, four years after KGF: Chapter 2

Advance bookings for Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups open today, five days before the film's worldwide release on 26 August. It is Yash's first film since KGF: Chapter 2 in 2022. Geetu Mohandas directs. Yash co-wrote and produced it through Monster Mind Creations with Venkat K. Narayana's KVN Productions.

The makers announced the booking date on Tuesday with a new poster. The film was first dated for 4 June 2026 and then postponed. It has been shot simultaneously in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Prime Media Studios has North American rights, and Variety said theatres there will show English and Kannada prints, with other dubs available. The English trailer puts Yash in a dual role as Raya and Ticket, in a story set in a fictionalised Goa in the last years of Portuguese rule. The cast around him is Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi. Stunt coordinator J.J. Perry, whose credits include the John Wick films, handled the action.

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Yash described the film as layered, and said that on the face of it it would look like a gangster movie with a lot of action, but that it had "deep psychology" and a "unique way to present a dark character." Promotional material has also drawn criticism over intimate scenes and the way women are framed. Yash has said the film is meant for adults, and pointed to the tagline, a fairytale for grown-ups, as the warning the makers put on the tin.

Four years is a long gap for an actor whose last film still sits on the list of Indian films that reset what a hit looks like. The English-and-Kannada shoot is the part I would watch more closely than the trailer violence, because it is a bet that this story can play in two languages without being rebuilt for either. Maybe that is just distribution talking. Maybe it is also what happens when a star who can open Kannada and Hindi wants a print that does not have to apologise in Los Angeles. The adult certificate argument will follow the bookings. People will decide in the queue whether they believe him.

Bookings are the first hard number. Watch whether the film actually holds a wide Hindi release alongside Kannada, and whether the 26 August date survives the last week of noise around the A certificate. The Ramayana, with Yash as Ravana, is the other global bet sitting behind this one. Toxic has to land first.
