Toxic's English cut hits Indian theatres today
The new version runs about 17 to 18 minutes shorter than the Indian-language cut.
Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups gets its English theatrical cut in India from Friday, September 4.
KVN Productions said the film was written and shot in English as well as Indian languages. The Indian-language versions opened on August 26. The English cut already played overseas from that date, with Lionsgate handling those markets.
The domestic English edition carries a CBFC A certificate dated September 1. Deccan Herald reports a runtime of 176 minutes and 52 seconds. Bollywood Hungama puts the Indian-language runtime at 194 minutes and 12 seconds, which makes the English cut about 18 minutes shorter. Other outlets round the trim to about 17 minutes.
The makers have not published a list of what was cut. Speculation has focused on songs and pacing, but that has not been confirmed.
Toxic is already in its second week in India. A shorter English print is a second bite at theatres, aimed at English-speaking audiences who skipped the longer multilingual cut.
It is also a rare pan-India release that treated English as a shoot language from the start, not a late dub. That is why the runtime difference is drawing as much attention as the release date.
Friday's shows will show whether the tighter cut finds a fresh audience or mainly recycles existing interest. Watch opening-day occupancy in metros and whether the makers later spell out what changed.
