At stumps on day three in Colombo, Sri Lanka were 265 for 8 in reply to India's 503 for 9 declared, trailing by 238.
ESPNcricinfo and Economic Times had Prasidh Krishna at 3 for 47 and Manav Suthar at 3 for 83. Sonal Dinusha was unbeaten on 85, with Lahiru Kumara for company after a 50-ball eight. Pasindu Sooriyabandara made 80 on his first full Test after a concussion-substitute cameo earlier in the series. India bowled 80-plus overs on a humid SSC day and still left Sri Lanka within touching distance of the follow-on mark when rain and bad light ended play early.
It was not a clean demolition. Kamindu Mendis pulled to midwicket. Sooriyabandara chopped on. Niroshan Dickwella edged a duck. Keshara Nuwantha lofted Suthar to mid-off after looking solid with Dinusha. Morne Morkel praised Prasidh for bowling through outside noise. Shubman Gill's fields sometimes chased the ball, and Saransh Jain went wicketless on debut.
Day two was Jurel's hundred and the declaration. Day three asked whether India's attack can finish a Test when the pitch is slower than expected.
Prasidh answering that question matters for the rest of this tour and beyond. Sri Lanka's lower order hanging on also matters, because a draw with weather around is still a live thought even from 238 behind.
Day four starts with Sri Lanka needing 39 more to make the follow-on academic. India are unlikely to enforce it unless rain forces a rethink.
