Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed Rs 550 crore gross in India, even with two new Hindi films in theatres
Sacnilk estimates put India net at about Rs 466 crore after the third weekend. It is now the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the country.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed about Rs 557 crore gross in India, according to Sacnilk estimates published by the Times of India, after its third weekend. India net is estimated at about Rs 466 crore. That puts it ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water (about Rs 477 crore gross) and Avengers: Endgame (about Rs 445 crore) as the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the country.
The third weekend itself was modest: about Rs 3.90 crore net on Friday, Rs 10.15 crore on Saturday, and Rs 8.75 crore on Sunday, for a three-day net of about Rs 22.80 crore. Week 1 was about Rs 334.75 crore net. Week 2 added about Rs 108.65 crore. The new Hindi releases did take a bite. Awarapan 2, with Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani, closed its debut weekend at an estimated Rs 98 crore. Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 closed at about Rs 31.61 crore. Spider-Man still held third place for the weekend, TOI said.
Hollywood films usually fade in India once a big Hindi release lands. This one did not fall off a cliff. It is in week three, two new Hindi films are in the same multiplexes, and it still added more than Rs 20 crore net over the weekend. The record against Avatar and Endgame is the headline for trade, but the more useful fact for anyone watching Indian screens is the split: the film is doing the work in English and in Hindi, and it is sharing the I-Day weekend instead of losing it. Sacnilk numbers move. Treat them as estimates.
TOI says Rs 600 crore gross in India is now the next round number people will watch for. Awarapan 2 is still climbing. The next public tell is whether Spider-Man's weekday holds, or whether the Hindi films take the screens back once the holiday weekend is over.
