Maharashtra's Anti-Corruption Bureau has sought sanction to prosecute an additional sessions judge of the Mumbai City Civil and Sessions Court, Indian Express reported.
It is the first such request in nearly a decade. The judge, now under suspension, was named in a November 2025 FIR after a clerk-cum-typist was arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 15 lakh from a complainant for a favourable order in a civil dispute. The ACB says the clerk demanded and took the money on the judge's behalf. The July sanction request went to the Law and Judiciary Department and has been forwarded to the Bombay High Court. A chargesheet waits on that nod. A departmental inquiry has not yet begun.
Judges are hard to charge for a reason. When the paperwork finally moves, it is a signal about how far the ACB thinks the evidence reaches.
The High Court's competent authority decides sanction. Without it, there is no chargesheet.
