Manchester United signed Carlos Baleba from Brighton for about £60 million.

Contract to 2031, with a further year option. Ankle issue from pre-season is not expected to keep him out long.

Manchester United completed the signing of Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba from Brighton on Tuesday.

The club did not publish the fee. A source close to the team told Reuters the initial price was £60 million, with add-ons. Baleba, 22, signed until 2031 with an option for another year. He joined Brighton from Lille in 2023, made 112 appearances there, and said Old Trafford was the club of his dreams. He has a pre-season ankle ligament injury that British media do not expect to sideline him for long. The deal follows United's recent midfield arrivals Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

United are rebuilding the engine room after years of patchwork. A £60 million midfielder is a statement that the valuation fight with Brighton finally moved.
