Bangladesh beat Australia by nine wickets in Darwin, their first Test win on Australian soil
Australia were bowled out for 198 and 284. Bangladesh made 426, then chased 57. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took five wickets in the second innings.
Bangladesh won the first Test at Darwin's Marrara Oval on Sunday by nine wickets. It is their first Test victory in Australia, and only their second against Australia after Dhaka in 2017.
Pat Cummins chose to bat. Australia were bowled out for 198, Steve Smith top-scoring with 71. Bangladesh replied with 426. Tanzid Hasan made 101, the first Bangladeshi Test hundred in Australia. Najmul Hossain Shanto made 84. Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 65. The lead was 228.
Australia were 161 for 4 overnight on Day 3. On Sunday they were bowled out for 284. Cameron Green made 104, his third Test hundred and his first in Australia, from 201 balls. Mehidy took 5 for 66. Hasan Mahmud took 3 for 56 and bowled Green with a ball that stayed low. Josh Hazlewood took six wickets in Bangladesh's first innings and reached 300 Test wickets.
The target was 57. Hazlewood bowled Tanzid for a duck. Shadman Islam (25 not out) and Mominul Haque (30 not out) finished it in 14.2 overs, Times of India reported.
Australia are the top-ranked Test side. A home defeat to Bangladesh, in a 149-year Test history, is the kind of result that follows the selectors around. The two-match Top End series is the start of a 12-month stretch in which Australia are due to play 20 Tests, including tours of South Africa, India and England. For Bangladesh, a first win in Australia is a landmark they have been chasing since they started playing Tests.
The second Test is in Mackay, Queensland, from 22 August. Bangladesh lead 1-0. Australia will be under pressure to change the XI. Bangladesh will try to close out a series they have never won away against this opponent.
