August IPOs raised over Rs 21,000 crore
Twenty companies made August the busiest IPO month in a year. July still leads on cash raised.
India's primary market is having its busiest month in nearly a year.
Economic Times, citing market data, said 20 companies had raised more than Rs 21,000 crore in August so far. That is the highest IPO count in the last twelve months. September 2025 had been busier on deal count, with 25 issues. On money raised, August ranks second in 2026. July still leads, with more than Rs 28,000 crore.
Bankers say many issuers waited through a choppy first half, then moved when sentiment and listing gains improved. Pranav Haldea of Prime Database called August a release of pent-up supply, not a sudden change in fundamentals. He said pricing is more realistic and investors are more selective on profitability, debt and promoter exits.
Grey-market premiums for some issues opening this week have been strong, though GMPs swing fast and are not official. The pipeline remains large. Prime Database figures from July put about 251 companies waiting to raise roughly Rs 4.93 lakh crore. Fresh names on the calendar include Lumino Industries, which opens on 27 August.
Retail money follows listings. A clean run of subscriptions keeps the window open into September, when approvals start to expire.
A weak debut or a broader market drop can shut it again. This is a selective rush, not a free-for-all.
Watch this week's openings and early September listings. Haldea expects momentum to continue if secondary markets stay steady.
