Abbott and Google are combining glucose monitoring with AI coaching, in a partnership announced today
Your continuous glucose monitor data is about to show up next to your sleep and activity stats.
Abbott and Google Health announced a multi-year partnership that combines glucose data from Abbott's Lingo, an over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor, with Google Health's platform. Lingo users will be able to see glucose trends alongside other health metrics in the Google Health app and get AI-powered guidance from Google Health Coach on nutrition, activity, sleep, and recovery. The partnership also includes a large-scale research study combining continuous glucose, wearable, lab, and survey data.
Continuous glucose monitors used to be a tool mostly for people managing diabetes. Lingo is part of a wave of over-the-counter versions aimed at anyone curious about how food and activity affect their blood sugar. Plugging that data into a general AI health coach, rather than leaving it in a standalone app, is a bet that glucose becomes just another input alongside sleep and steps, not a specialist metric. The research study attached to it is also one of the larger real-world metabolic health datasets being assembled right now.
Watch what the research study actually finds once it has enough real-world data, since that's what will inform how Google's AI coaching evolves. Also worth watching whether other CGM makers respond with their own platform integrations, since Abbott just set a template.
